The
following factors are to be taken care of while choosing a site for
the fresh water Aquarium.
Light and heat - Before setting
up any aquarium, its proposed area should be chosen with care. Site
selection is important for reasons both of aesthetics and healthy fish
keeping. The location should be such that it is not exposed to direct
sunlight (which would result in excessive algal growth and abnormal
increase in water temperature). For these reasons a window sill may
not be an ideal site for aquaria in general.
Access - There should
be easy and close access to an electric point. More over there Should
be enough moving space around and over the tank for easy access and to
accommodate useful hard ware like filters, pumps, etc.
Support - The platform on which
the tank is proposed to be kept should be strong enough to support the
weight of a filled aquarium. A wooden or metallic table with plastic
pegs attached to the foot to protect the floor might be ideal.
Level of floor – The proposed
site should also have a level ground. If the aquarium is set on uneven
ground the appearance as well as working will be affected. The sloping
water line will be unsightly and the tank might experience stress due
to the imbalance in weight distribution. More over the slope will
cause the under gravel filter to harbor pockets of air, affecting
water flow and purification.
