Robert Boyle(1627-1691)
Born in Ireland, he became well known for his natural philosophy. He suggested that matter is composed of fundamental 'corpuscles' that combine in different proportions. He is best remembered for his study of gas. Boyle,s law is names after him. He wrote a theology treatise and organized lectures to defend Christianity against other religions
