Michael Faraday, the discoverer of electromagnetic induction, electro
magnetic rotations, the magneto optical effect, diamagnetism, field theory
etc., was born in Newington Butts, London. In 1813, he was appointed
Chemical Assistant at the Royal Institution. His discoveries on electro
magnetic induction and rotation, that allowed electricity to be turned from
a scientific mystery into a powerful technology. This is the principle
behind the electric transformer and generator. He also proposed that
electricity was a form of force that passed from one particle to another and
not an imponderable fluid, as was originally believed.
