Chadwick(1891-1974)

A nuclear physicist born on October 20,1891 in Bolington , U.K. He did
research under Rutherford for a long time with alpha particles. In 1932 he
discovered neutron and thus began a new era in atomic physics. He also
discovered the mass of neutron. During the second world war he helped in the
development of an atomic bomb. He made cyclotron for the first time in
Britain in 1935. He also developed a research school in nuclear physics
there. He was knighted in 1945. He died on July 24, 1974.
