Frederick Sanger(1918-)

 

                A British Bio-Chemist. In 1943 he worked with Dr. A Neuberger on the metabolism of amino acid lysine and received a ph.D. He worked out the structure of insulin and this made possible the chemical synthesis of insulin. He got the Nobel prize twice, the first in 1958 for the work on insulin and the second in 1980 for the work on DNA sequencing. He is currently the head of Division of protein chemistry at Cambridge.
