Edward Jenner(1749-1823)

 

               Born on May 17, 1749 in Berkeley , England. He practiced under many skilled doctors and then set up his own medical business. In those days small pox was a fatal disease and many of the affected died and the survivors were disfigured. Jenner observed that the persons affected with cowpox never contracted smallpox. Thus he developed the vaccine against small pox from the wound of a cowpox infected lady. He was awarded 30000 pounds by the British Government for his discoveries. Now vaccination is used all over the world.. Jenner died on 1823.
