An American citizen who was born in Scotland. His greatest invention was
the telephone. On June 2, 1875, he was experimenting with the sending of
several telegraph messages over the same wire at the same time. His
assistant Thomas Watson happen to pluck a steel reed of the receiving set,
which caused a swanging sound in the sending set. This was the birth of
telephone. He also invented the audiometer, flat and cylindrical wax
recorders for phonographs, hydrofoils to make ship go faster and kites
capable of lifting people.
